Music has been woven into the fabric of Jana’s life since before she could talk. Her father, a pastor, & her mother, a concert pianist and music instructor, filled their home with hymns, harmonies, & a deep love for worship. Sitting on the piano bench at age two, Jana does not remember a day without music in her life.
Jana wrote her first song at nine & performed an original piece at ten. During high school, she toured with singing groups, performing in churches and competitions, & was honored as Oklahoma’s Outstanding Female Vocalist in 1992.
Her musical influences are wonderfully diverse, from Mahalia Jackson to Andrea Bocelli. Growing up, her family road trips were soundtracked by eight-track cassettes of Andraé Crouch & the Disciples, Tennessee Ernie Ford & the Jordanaires, and the Boston Pops Symphony, shaping her love for blending genres in worship. As a teenager, her favorite bands showcased strong musicalities with unique instrumentals & vocals from journey, chicago, & the police (sting, still being at the top of her current playlist).
In 2002, she introduced her first live worship album, All About You, featuring original songs. In 2008, she released original album, Song of Dreams, to benefit her pediatric patients & support SMA Angels charity. In 2015, she recorded & performed music to raise awareness for human trafficking, using her voice to bring hope & bring attention to important causes.
Her family’s musical heritage runs deep as her grandparents, aunts, uncles, & cousins were all gifted singers, musicians, and composers. Family occasions at her grandparents’ homes, would include gathering around the piano singing together & watching her grandparents lead or participate in their choirs. Those early experiences shaped her love for music & worship.
